There have been, in fact, 4 ships named USS Iowa.  The first was a Civil War monitor ship that, according to Wikipedia, was never commissioned.

The second USS Iowa, BB-4, was the United States' first seagoing battleship, and this is the vessel I was referring to in my above post.

The third USS Iowa, BB-53, was under construction in 1923 (when BB-4) was renamed and refitted for use as a target vessel.  Construction was cancelled by the Washington Naval Treaty, which restricted shipbuilding among the signatory nations.

The fourth USS Iowa, BB-61, is the one you referenced.

    Sorry for my confusion.

Shirley Chisholm was right. Our Republic is in deep trouble.
