  •  As a registered Republican, it seems that you (8+ / 0-)

are on to something.  I know I'm certainly guilty of reading a lot of diaries that entertain me, or inform me or get the blood boiling but very little in concrete steps to make the world a better place.

Put another way to put it is that my action to "fun" ratio on DKOS is approaching zero and that's not good for anyone.

What's the answer?  Who knows?  Since I'm competitive perhaps making a system where I can earn points and "beat" other people might encourage me and others to compete and take action.  Liberals, in general, tend to be less competitive and it may not work as well but it's certainly an idea.

You could also marry it up to the business philosophy that says that what gets measured gets done.  Well, by creating some kind of game that measures productive actions, you might be able to make it popular enough on a site with enough readers to make an impact.

That's a game I might be willing to play.

    •  You have some good ideas... (6+ / 0-)

... and while I wholeheartedly support everyone registering to vote then actually voting, I hope you're considering helping us get out the Democratic vote ;-)

      •  Yep, I'm on the Dem bus this year (8+ / 0-)

I used to get sick of Dems saying that they were a part of the "reality based community".  Like I wasn't?  But "my" party has gone pretty crazy and I look forward to the day when we have two sane parties.

Until that day, I will supporting other parties besides the Repubs.

I thought we had the right formula in 2008.  I thought for sure we'd see a swing back to sanity.  I was woefully over-confident.  We went the other way.  Deeper into the rabbit hole.  Not that I mind the GOP going there but they dragged the whole country deeper.

Most of my life I was quite satisfied being an independent.  I was quite satisfied with voting for the candidate who I thought was best despite the party affiliation - although the vast majority of those votes went to Dems and I increasingly felt I was voting for the lessor of 2 evils.

Not any more.  Heck I long for the lessor of 2 evils options.  The GOP is so far gone that they'd make anyone short of a serial killer look like the lessor of 2 evils.

So, here's to you.  I'm with you in your hope for the return of sanity for the GOP.  I just don't know if it will happen.
