    campaign to strike African Americans from the voter rolls, a not insignificant reason for other problems (like the butterfly ballot) was the fact that there were thirteen candidates for president on the Florida general election ballot...I remember elderly voters and others complaining about the small print (the butterfly ballot design in another county allowed for larger print, but the confusing layout made it hard to tell whether the punch hole was for Al Gore or Pat Buchanan). It wasn't so much Nader alone as Nader and the other nine "third party" candidates that screwed things up.
