Mr. Giuda, regardless of party, stand up and do the right thing.  I may even have to send him an e-mail even though I am a Democrat from California.  At this point, I don't care what party a politician has next to his/her name, if they stand up against sleazy behavior they deserve my appreciation.  Mr. Giuda didn't step up half way either - way to go dude!  If this country had more Republicans with some integrity, President Obama's job would be much easier and more effective.  Our country might even be in better shape.  Good riddance to the likes of Mr. Bettancourt and thank you michaeledward for a well written and hopeful diary.

    •  Integrity only goes as far as his name (1+ / 0-)

Giuda could have been risking disbarment or other penalties for aiding Bettencourt's deception. IMO this is nothing more than CYA mode. Integrity doesn't really describe the situation given that Giuda himself risked being dragged into the mess by Bettencourt.

The Line between integrity and CYA is an interesting idea to contemplate.

I do not know Representative Giuda; he is not from a district near me. So, I have only a couple of news reports upon which I am basing these comments.

First ... I believe Brandon Giuda is a pretty far right wing type of guy. And I am about as far left as you can get. I don't think either of us represent the main stream of American political thought. We are both at the outer edges of the normal curve.

Second ... I believe Mr. Giuda is acting with integrity. Yes, there are CYA ramifications that overlap with the actions he has taken. But, I don't believe one can stand strongly for positions without demanding a certain measure of integrity.

Third ... there has been an unpleasant stench coming from the leadership of House Republicans. Several prominent Republicans have resigned their leadership posts during the current legislative session because of that stench. That Mr. Giuda does not want any of that stench getting on him ... well, that is most definitely not CYA.

      •  I doubt that anyone would ever have caught it (1+ / 0-)

Giuda had no need in the "what can I get away with" sense to turn in Bettencourt. He may be far from perfect, but he still has some integrity.

As I said elsewhere, he may slill have been making lemonade if, as it appears, Bettencourt was just O'Brien's second set of lips and Giuda and O'Brien were vying with each other for control of the caucus.

The GOP is the party of mammon. They mock what Jesus taught.
