I really appreciate this diary Bill as it is a subject that I, too follow.  I don't follow the science as much as I follow the response by commercial/government companies that know damn well what the future holds regardless of their public stance.

Just 3 quick examples (I can't link on this computer).

    - Canada/Alaska along with the Oil companies are now allowing exploration on the Arctic sea bed where previously it was nearly impossible to drill b/c of the issue of "drift" with the ice - no ice, no drift.  More oil.

-The US/Canadian governments are planning military naval bases in the far north b/c of the likelihood of an all year open water passage.  The presence of military bases is merely to protect the right to free flow of commerce but is interesting given the stance of other government entities.

-Finally, my personal favorite - Air Canada is now flying a "polar route" in the summer from Toronto to Hong Kong going literally straight over the pole.  What does this have to do with arctic ice?  Previously, airlines could not count on certain areas with emergency landing sights being available bc of snow/ice (on land).

Ok, the last one isn't directly related to ice as much as it is climate.  Its just another example of corporations KNOWING that the Arctic is changing drastically and USING that info.

    Great diary Bill.

"How can the United States be the Greatest Nation ever if it is the only modern nation where citizens hold bake sales to pay for life saving medical care?" Single payer is coming but how many people will die before it becomes the only solution?
