One, the reason they are in this mess is austerity. The Greek mess was otherwise easier to solve 2 years ago.

Second, 86% of Greeks are taxed at the source.

They bought too much military weaponry, that's the problem.

And guess who sold them the weaponry.

Combined, the biggest sellers by far were France and Germany. Greece screwed up bigtime by buying these weapons, but there was also some vendor financing involved.

      •  They weren't forced to buy it. (0+ / 0-)

They did so because Greek society is profoundly corrupt. You keep trying to blame the pusher. The addict is actually playing a role in this. Greece was provided a huge pile of cash and took it. So, sure, those throwing the cash are to blame, but the corrupt Greek politicians who took it bear a huge responsibility too.

Greek people rebuild a real economy again. The Asset theft by billionaire banksters of things that took generations of taxpayers to build is not acceptable. It should never  even be considered  as a reasonable solution to the failure three card monty  globalism.

has been a disaster with ongoing crises. The Greek agricultural sector is hammered by drought and heat. Tourism everywhere is way down. The Greek economy has been tanked by very easy to understand problems. Then came the pile-on.

    •  They've been forced to buy (2+ / 0-)

that weaponry by France and Germany as part of the 'austerity' package.

      •  There have been articles about that (3+ / 0-)

and one German politician even went on a screed about it in the Euro Parliament, but the vast majority of these arms were purchased prior to 2009 in what I would describe as a vendor financing scheme. It's akin to our subsidizing billionaires in the USA, whether $$ for big oil or else sports franchises.

Greece has a welfare problem--it's involved in a corporate welfare scheme.

of arms they were forced to buy as part of the 'austerity' was actually very large, I think...although I can't find the final amount right now.

In addition to that, you're right, Greece has historical problems with their neighbors to the east and north--very ancient enmities, and there have been ridiculous MI expenditures because of those old fears.
