              •  Nobody. (11+ / 0-)

Nobody that can actually get elected. Neither guy from either party will even try. I doubt 98% of the politicians from either party would do anything different. They'd both rather send the police out after the people, to kick the crap out of the protesters, than try to help them.

Obama's admin did it, it is all here in the diary, and you know that Rmoney would too.

So what is the point of your question? You just got an honest answer, if that was the point?

change isn't immediate.  it took reagan through bush to do this damage - neither obama or the democrats can change that immediately.

you are trying to lay the entire damaged system (by republicans) on the back of obama and the dems and that is foolish and foolhardy.

if you think there is no difference between the parties - then the problem you are worried about will only grow exponentially to the number of republicans in office.

                  my point?

if you aren't out there trying to elect democrats, then you need to be out there trying to STOP the republicans from gaining seats/power!

blaming the dems - dropping out of the system - voting third party only will insure that problems will get much much worse than they are now.

in another diary about the recall, someone quoted that it is easier to keep beneifts than try to reinstate them - (paraphrased somewhat).

the same goes with civil rights.  it is easier to keep them in the first place than try to reinstate them.

just look at the war on women.  IF the nutjobs succeed in blocking abortions by hook and crook, it will be very difficult to get the services restored.

the same goes for every right we have.  you need to be out there actively out there capaigning to get rid of every republican in office!

otherwise, you (and we) are in deeper trouble than exists now!

                    And as for this:

I live in Connecticut, where the DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR, with a Dem controlled House and Senate, is kicking teacher unions and throwing massive amounts of money at charter school boondoggles. Change is non-existent if your leaders in power don't work for it. (Remind what Obama's position is on vouchers and charter schools is?)

The Dems are going to have to do better than this. You are going to have to to harder than this. And ascribing actions to myself ("dropping out of the system - voting third party"), or anyone else on this blog for that matter, is an empty strawman. Especially when you know little to nothing about myself, personally.

Don't try to tell me what I am doing, because I know what I am doing. Try telling me what the politicians are doing, what they are really doing, and quit aimlessly tossing things at my feet when/if you figure out something sucks.

I may keep my eye on the 10 and 20 year battles But I only do what I do, day to day, in reaction to what they have already proved to have done, day to day. That is when I adjust my activism accordingly.

Right now? Nothing but a kick in the ass is well deserved for about 98% of the Dems. Tell them to adjust their stupid and then I will react to that when/if they do adjust.

                    •  if you don't like what a politician is doing - (0+ / 0-)

then work to vote his replacement INTO office!

third party candidates don't have a chance - so run a better and stronger democrat that holds positions that matter to you.

as for my statement about getting services restored, that is painfully true.  replacing the existing infrastructure, whether it be women's clinics or manufacturing plants, costs massive amounts of money.  it won't happen any more than restoring a paved parking lot to green space will happen.

it is easier to keep something than to replace it at a much higher cost and effort.

as for kicking 98% of the dems in the ass, will that help your passion be realized?  or will it turn off the uneducated voter that only hears your criticism and the soothing seductive lies of the republicans saying that they will do "better" when we ALL know they are lying through their teeth to gain power.

kick the dems' collective asses - by all means - but do it when it will do the most good - AFTER they are back in office.  the only real options you have are these:  democrat or republican.  anything else is counterproductive in the ballot box and is directly contraindicating what you want to happen.

i'll join you in that kicking AFTER november.  why after? because all the kicking in the world won't change anything if you have a republican laughing HIS/HER ass off in that office after he/she wins against the dem!

                  •  edrie - I am here at Netroots! (7+ / 0-)

Whoo hoo! Eric Shniedermann was the keynote speaker  last night and I saw him today at a panel discussion I attended. HIS message is that we keep kicking until we get what we want.  The conservatives do it to their leaders but we expect that all we have to do is vote and it is done. It is NOT done. Regardless of who we vote for in NOVEMBER we still need to push June, July August, September and October to get the policies we want. I am gonna work as hard as I can for Elizabeth Warren, the gal who is running for the senate in HI and  Darcy Brunner amongst others. I am not happy with my Senator and I am gonna keep after her.  I am not happy with Obama and I am gonna keep telling him. I am not taking my civic duty lightly. And I am not expecting miracles. But I want change for the better. I want unions to be supported, I want women's rights to be respected and held for them. I want Citizens United either overturned or an amendment to the effect that corporations are not people. At the very least I want disclosure. I want the ability to KNOW who is paying for the ads. I want the invisible visible.

we just have to remember WHO we need to kick until november is done.  the target?  republicans! they are the greater concern for the future of this nation at the moment.

it is ALL about perspective.  right now, we need to be kicking the bejeesus out of the republicans because that is what the media will cover (we hope).

i appreciate your passion - i am glad you are actively participating - this world will be all yours in a few years - when my generation is done, you inherit it.  keep kicking - and as long as this body functions, when i'm old and decrepit,  i'll be right there with you - if not kicking, i'll be smacking with my cane or rolling over toes with my wheelchair! (or i'll just ride my senior horse up to them to do the kicking for both of us!)

                    •  oh, and one more thing i forgot to add... (0+ / 0-)

it is NEVER done!  (as my poor friends will tell you - politics is a forever business with me).

the minute we stop participating in politics, the system rolls over on us.  every single day, every single action is political.  complacency is NOT an option!  at 66 1/2 yrs now, i've been a political animal for over 50 years.  every single day - every single opportunity - i am explaining to people why politics impacts their every day lives... from food quality, job safety, health care, potholes.... it is ALL political.

the counties and states and federals that vote against taxes get a huge piece of that dialogue:  do you drive on the roads?  do you cross bridges?  depend on the fire dept? emergency services?  etc., etc., etc.

with the schools now skipping the importance of participation in the political system, the detachment from direct community interaction (due to the technical advances), it is ever more critical to make people aware of how politics impacts their lives daily.

from mcdonald's (when i used to go there) to the cashier at the local store - each and every opportunity to discuss the importance of being "counted" is used.  this is a full time commitment AND a full time job to get people to engage on days other than "sunday" (voting days).

i'm glad you're at nn12 - i'm glad you are inspired - keep that fire burning.  you have decades of work ahead of you - and when we advance that little millimeter, it is all worth it!

in my life, i've seen laws changed that you would find astounding.  the criminalization of mixed race marriage - de-criminalized.

the criminalization of anything but the "missionary" between couples - MOSTLY decriminalized.

                      reproductive choice - available.

segregation - undone (but not finished).

civil rights, religious freedom (thank you, madeline murray o'hair!), aids and hiv education, so much more.

and in your lifetime, you'll see these changes, too, and know that  you worked to make them happen.  that is what makes it all worth it.

                      to quote winston churchill:

                      never, never, never give up!

Obama Campaign Admits Fundraising Defeat In May

His donations from the people who contributed $200 or more in 2008 have fallen off by 90%...

The poll numbers for the November election do not bode well for Democrats, but Obama (and many of the people on this site) refuse to listen to complaints coming from the base. If you read other progressive blogs, then you know that the push back against his policies are growing at an alarming rate.

And for him to pretend that nothing is wrong is a huge mistake.

It could very well cost him the Presidency this time around...let's hope he wakes up in time to turn things around. But I just don't see that happening.
