It's been a loooong time since I made a comment here (I mostly just lurk these days) but decided to log in just to post this, because you should know that at least one person (and probably more than one person) admires what you did. You saw someone in need and tried to help them. In a world where so many people don't, you did. In a world where so many people are too busy or too selfish to stop and give someone else their own time or money, you did.

I don't think it takes away from it that you chose to share the story anonymously on dkos. It sounds like you are facing your own challenges and this act of kindness helped you feel a sense of hope. Naturally, you wanted to share that with other people, no doubt hoping others would be inspired (and no doubt some were). While it's true that one act of kindness does not change someone's situation, it can help. And it may be true that we cannot empathize fully when we have not experienced something similar, but that should not preclude anyone from offering whatever help they can give. I believe in judging people based on their intentions, and to me your intentions were very good. So please don't be disheartened.
