  •  Well, I did tear off my mattress tags... (4.00)
    ...but I didn't inhale.

P.S. I just got my very own posting privileges tonight. I can't tell you all what your support here means to me. Tonight has been a very, very dark night.

What a shock - when you were young, you did a few things that now, a generation later, don't make you terribly proud.  OK, so you plagarized a story once when you were a kid.  Big stinking deal.  Who the hell cares?

That's life, nothing more.  You shouldn't feel any shame at such a trivial incident that occurred so long ago.  You're not running for pope.  You are standing up for the truth, for our country.  Probably going to save a lot of innocent lives, too, if your story helps derail that lunatic.

You are a patriot, a great American, and the creeps who run this administration could learn a hell of a lot from you about courage and righteousness.

Don't take any crap from these goons.  We are with you.

    •  comfort and strength to you Melody (none)
We've seen again and again how the Bushies do this to people who have damaging claims to make against them. It's their consistent strategy: make counteraccusations, attack credibility with no mercy. A CIA method. It's cruel and it's wrong.

You're right to make allies here, we're little folks but there are lots of us. If we can do anything for you we will.

I can't even begin to imagine what a night it is like!  Sleep sound.  You made a mistake...we all just isn't even close to what Bolton has done and will do.

My best wishes are with you tomorrow and just remember, you are not alone.  We're rooting for you!

... you go, girl.  For their attack machine to do a number on you and come up with this vapid nonsense as their best line of attack.... well, that about makes you as close to a model citizen as you can be.  To coin a phrase: "They got nuttin'!"

    •  You've come to the right place (4.00)
Unlike those noisy Christians in your neighborhood, you'll find people here truly forgiving, honest, moral, and principled.

We're with you, and we deeply respect and appreciate what you've done.  Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

    •  Hello! (none)
Welcome Melody, you are a woman of courage. I respect you for your letter, and I am glad and saddened you felt a need to do this.  The sadness comes from knowing that the Republicans have far more skeletons in their collective closets and they will never be brought to question like you.  Glad that you got this out to the dkos community before the press goes berserk.  You are someone that has my respect and admiration.  Thank you!

Another way of looking at this is that if they are digging up dirt from 20 years ago then they are the ones who are worried about your testimony.

To me, this just adds credibility to your account.

Stay strong, you are so very brave.

      •  this is proof that they fear you (4.00)
they only go after the people who have something seriously damaging to say--people who can really hurt them.

when they go after you like this politically savvy people know right away this means you have struck a nerve and they fear you.

It burns me that they all act like they are perfect.  their own president has done much worse and much more recently.

Politics is like driving. To go backward, put it in R. To go forward, put it in D.

    •  Don't let the bastards get you down. (4.00)
Just think of the baseball steroids hearings.  One congressperson after another droning about the fond memories they have of going to Wrigley Field with Dad/playing stickball in a vacant lot/taking the kids to the minor league game -- they were just talking to their constituents, every one of them.  And the questions you're going to get will be just like that.  They won't really be about what you did.  They'll be about making the questioners look good in the eyes of the people who give them power, whoever that may be.

So whatever you do, don't take any of it personally.  They're not your conscience.  And all the better for you that they're not.

    •  My view (none)
We're not dealing with the stupid, lazy, uninformed, and easily misled general public here.

You don't have to win a vote among millions of constituents.

If one were to view this as an election, you have two to three constituents: George Voinovich, Chuck Hagel, and Lincoln Chafee. They're all you need to convince.

The Democrats on the committee will recognize this for what it is, particularly in light of Dear Leader's refusal to discuss what he was doing in his life even at age 40.

These three Senators -- Voinovich, Hagel, and Chafee -- are not stupid people. While Hannity, Limbaugh, and their ilk will talk endlessly about this to their panting, grubby-fingered listenters, this information will have zero effect on these three Senators.

It's too bad your name is about to be dragged through the mud.  I hope you can ignore it; because it surely bears ignoring. To use a cliche, it is sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I don't think it will change anything on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  You have made your case.  It has been corroborated.

We all thank and honor you for doing your duty as an American citizen.

    •  Welcome & Thank You! (none)
Melody, thank you for being a person of integrity.  Thank you for stepping forward and facing the Rovian gauntlet.  What Bolton did to you in K. was unacceptable by any professional standard.  I can only imagine how he'd apply that "skillset" to his work at the UN - badgering Kofi Annan, trolling the hallowed UN halls and slamming doors until WW III erupts? What a nightmare.

I'm so proud of you for speaking out.  Thanks for joining us here.  You're with friends.
