    I respect the Founding Fathers.

They deserve credit and admiration for their vision and courage.

That doesn't mean the US Constitution is perfect. In fact, it isn't even very good.

It didn't stop the Civil War.

It took 75 years to end Slavery.

It took 130 to grant women the vote.

It took 175 years to grant Blacks the vote (and some say this really hasn't happened yet).

Our Constitution was designed for a global, technological age. So the UK -- the country we fought 8-year-long war to leave -- has better healthcare.

That is why Finland (freakin' FINLAND!) has better schools.

That is why Germany and Japan never lose their credit rating due to budget deadlocks. (The Founding Fathers knew how to handle deadlocks. That is why they did not foresee the filibuster becoming such a big problem.../snark)

Seriously, there may be good reasons to preserve this or that part of the Constitution. But we need better reasons than an appeal to the "wisdom of the Founding Fathers". Those guys were good, but they were also lucky. And our luck has long since run out. We need to make new Amendments based on new realities.
