    Now, just think about this for a moment. The Simpson-Bowles plan:

    a. did not pass the Simpson-Bowles committee;

    The suggestion was a political strategy) that either works or doesn't:
    Had Obama gone to the country with more near-term stimulus married to Simpson-Bowles, he would have owned the left, independents and center-right. It would have split the Republicans and provided a real alternative to the radical Paul Ryan-Romney plan.
    I say it works:

    President Obama already has the Left, so that's not a problem. There are many recommendations in Simpson-Bowles that are going to come to pass. Obama could have controlled what they will be and steer them away from social programs.

    Austerity is on its way no matter how much we deny it. Furthermore, half the voters in America are voting against Obama, thus showing the support for the conservatism that is bringing austerity on. It would have been a good strategy to split the GOP by neutralizing their mandate -- and give Obama a leg up on the lead.

    I prefer to have President Obama pick my poison.

    According to the Tea Party, there are three kinds of Conservatives: "Those who can do math and those who can't."
