democracies or little republics, depending on their own setups. So no, they didn't really claim or believe that they were setting up a democratic collective.

I get why they had to do it and still lean toward keeping the EC....I don't believe we're unified enough as a country for new york city and LA to rule.

You could win 100% of the vote in the 10 largest MSAs, and carried the states associated with those cities (not a safe assumption, but play along), that only gets you 209 EVs.

Conversely, if you focused solely on winning the smallest states, you'd only need 22% of the popular vote to win the Presidency.

      That's a joke.

What possible justification can there be for a voter in Vermont or Wyoming having 3 or 4 times the voting power of someone in California or Texas?

      •  But you're changing gears. The voter isn't voting (0+ / 0-)

in a national election...he/she is voting in a state election to determine which candidate their state will choose. In that way, their vote isn't worth as much because their state doesn't have as much influence.

        •  Individual voters still decide the election (0+ / 0-)

think of it like this: the probability of a tie out of 100 million voters is much smaller than having Florida being the deciding state, and having a tie amongst 5 million Florida voters.

Whatever voting scheme you come up with, the voting power of each voter is a measure of the equity of that system. By any objective measure of voting mechanics and equity, the electoral college is a joke. It could be understood when it took weeks for news to get across the country, but not anymore.

is to apportion EV's over several States to provide regional representation but more equal population. That's how the Senate should be reorganized too, by region not by State.

The universe may have a meaning and a purpose, but it may just specifically not include you.
