  •  THIS is my biggest complaint on the jobs... (25+ / 0-)

...front for the past, say, 18 months. The administration should have been proposing a big stimulus (one that included direct government hiring — call that a modern WPA, if you like) plan even though the Republicans would never pass it. If the administration had done this month after month, it would now be able to say, clearly and without the slightest spin, that it had tried and tried and the GOP blocked. It IS saying the GOP blocked, it's true, but as you say, WHAT did they block?

was not popular.  It polls badly.

The central failure of the Obama Administration is that it lost the political battle over the stimulus package and HCR. The fact that neither polls well severly contstrained their ability to go back to the well in 2010.

If the stimulus package was popular, they would have gotten a second one in 2010 (as Summers wanted).  It was a non-starter.

...because it didn't produce the amount of jobs that were promised. And Summers? Yeah, he had a last-resort conversion but wouldn't even put Christine Romer's higher-stimulus idea on the president's desk in January 2009.

      •  To make it poll well you have to sell it (0+ / 0-)

The national Democratic party has been so tepid about advocating progressive policies that there is little wonder that good policies don't poll well.
