MSNBC: What 'suspending' a campaign means

It's a political distinction rather than a legal one, said Michael Toner, a prominent Republican election lawyer and former Federal Election Commission chairman.

"It gives you more flexibility politically" and "political cover to get back in the race," if a candidate chooses to do so, Toner said. "It gives you more wiggle room."

By not officially terminating a campaign, a candidate can continue to raise money to retire debt. A candidate would not be allowed to "terminate" their campaign -- in the technical sense with the FEC -- unless they paid off their obligations and debts.

There's a reason why political campaigns are suspended and not ended, just like there is a reason why Walmart suspends their association with ALEC instead of ending it.

..I get that you find Wal-Mart to be intrinsically devious, hence you can't trust Wal-Mart as far as you can throw it.

Lord knows this website has dedicated a massive amount of time & energy to framing Wal-Mart as a nexus of right wing cruelty.  So I understand your skepticism.

All I can say if Mal-Mart does a 180 & re-embraces ALEC down the line, you can write a diary about how you were right all along.

I'll even come into your comment section & eat crow.

When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in excess body fat and carrying a misspelled sign.

In any event, WM never gets another dime of my money.  Ever.
        Same for GM.

They should have never been involved with ALEC. Ever.

        It's the inequality, stupid.
