It's a dead end road.  And yes, there will be another ALEC, the fight is eternal. What makes anyone here think they would be excused from that, when it's been going on since the beginning of time, in one way or another?  Why would we be more entitled than those who came before us?

Still, it IS GOOD NEWS.  Don't think for a minute that ALEC isn't feeling the pain, and reconsidering how it might survive. Because if it continues to over reach its power, it's going to die.  And that's a good thing.

Really, this sort of story is what SHOULD make progressives stand up and cheer. This is an incredibly BFD.  How is it that some of us can never celebrate our wins? If we don't pause to do that, we will not be able to sustain our energy to fight.

Pay more attention to the story than the headlines?  And think more deeply about the implications and consequences?  Because we recognize that this is merely the beginning of the fight in a long war, not the end?  Because you don't celebrate victory until you win, or risk everyone being satisfied with the result of a minor skirmish, and then walk away thinking that we don't have to pay attention to it anymore?
Sure, it's a GOOD thing that Walmart is walking away from ALEC .  For now.  But this war isn't over.
Rush is still poisoning the hearts and minds of Americans, despite the victories won in shaming so many of his sponsors into deserting him, isn't he?

but I believe I covered much of the territory you have here in my comment, including and particularly, "the fight is eternal."

If you're sitting around waiting to celebrate victory till we've won the last and ultimate victory, then you're going to lose in the end. No one fights on without some sense of reward and forward momentum.  Incremental success must be celebrated, because it's the only kind we're every going to get.

I find your concern that because Wal Mart dropped out of ALEC---and some of us think that's a very good thing--- we're going to jump on our hammocks and consider our job done to be truly head scratching.

Sitting around wasn't going to win the war.  And I thought I agreed with you that it's a good thing that  Walmart is dropping ALEC.  So, head scratch right back atcha.
I agree that we each need to take encouragement from whatever victories we find.  I also think that it's not discouraging to remember that this is but a battle, and the war is not done.  I think we're quibbling over style, not content.  So, onward!  And have a beer on me.  See you in the trenches tomorrow!
