  •  Three profs - sorta (0+ / 0-)

    1. Generally positive on his student years

On the other hand, Boles hid neither her soft spot for Walker, the student, nor her disdain for Walker, the governor. “He turned in all his assignments on time, he took all of his tests on time, and he never showed me any disrespect,” said Boles, who retired in 2009 from the private Catholic school in downtown Milwaukee. “I just hate what he’s doing to our state.”
    2. Totally positive about him, then and now
The governor’s one-time political science professor John McAdams, a gregarious conservative quietly rooting for Walker to win, finds no such integrity gap in one of his favorite students.

“Scott came to class with a curiosity liberal professors dismiss when the curiosity comes from a conservative,” said McAdams

    3. Photo caption - quoted briefly regarding student govt. campaign
Retired professor Athan Theoharis said Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's campaign violations were "common knowledge" during a final failed run for student body president at Marquette University

“He turned in all his assignments on time, he took all of his tests on time, and he never showed me any disrespect."

I have students like that.  Sure, they're no trouble.  But they also may be that way because they're not really learners; they're just there to punch the academc clock, get the piece of paper (as he did not do), and escape from academe without ever having opened their minds at all to actually begin to become educated.

And just fyi, McAdams is as wacko a wingnut as can be.  No wonder he loved him his Scooter in the three-piece suiter.

On the other hand, Boles and Theoharis are highly respected scholars in their fields, especially Theoharis (a hero of the FOIA efforts among historians).  So I weigh not only the statements but also the sources, and the bottom line for me is not favorable to Scooter -- not half-and-half.

As to assessing the sources, you know the players. The average reader of The Seattle Times certainly doesn't (nor did I). The overall impression left is of a guy who was an adequate, if not stellar, student; and not the evil Svengali the Barry piece paints him to be.
