At that time most everyone will have made up their mind and will be unpersuadable.

The October report that comes out in early November doesn't matter even slightly.

The September report released in early October is the last one that matters politically at all.

I feel like we somehow need to get the unemployment rate down to 7.9 by that time, and then Obama wins comfortably.  I think psychologically that's a big deal to get down into the 7s.

But right now I don't know how we get there.

Of course, last October we never imagined 8.1 by May, and that's where we were.

We have no idea what's going to happen this summer.  The most insightful and knowledgeable economists and other professionals out there don't have a clue.

I can imagine the Romney campaign's response now:

"Either this is a one-off fluke event atypical of the Barack Hussein Obama economy or this is a deliberative attempt on behalf of this administration to fudge the numbers for corrupt personal political gain which is resoundingly the norm for Obama crony capitalists."

but Romney's statement about it wont either.

ahead of time, how do people explain '08?

                that far ahead.

Ultimately, obviously, what matters is how people feel about the economy. So, if we do have some kind of upturn in the next of couple of months, brought on by lower fuel prices, that could help Obama. A good Oct. report may confirm a trend people are feeling, but the report itself wont change anything. And certainly, every Romney statement about the economy will about how Obama failed, regardless of the numbers.

      •  I find it hard to believe (4+ / 0-)

that people will be watching the jobs report on November 2 and bade their vote on that.

they come from. No sign economy is recovering and the rest of the world is in turmoil.

Progressives will win only when we convince a majority that they, too, are Progressive. And... It’s the Supreme Court, stupid!

      •  No it wouldn't. Not if voters have stewed for (0+ / 0-)

5 months on such bad numbers and made their mind up by November.  99% know who they are voting for at that time.  Maybe even more than that percentage.

The only hope we have it to get people to see that the bad numbers are not Obama's fault.  It was what he was given when he came to office and the GOP doing everything in their power to destroy the economy so he would not win a second term.  Somehow we have to make voters see this as the fault of republicans.

    •  If that were the case the '08 financial collapse (1+ / 0-)

would not have had the impact on the election it had.

      •  that assumes (0+ / 0-)

that there is no such thing as reality, and numbers on paper are all that matter.

The sucky economic reality hurts politicians.  The reports that describe the sucky reality, not so much.

all morals are relative, but some are more relative than others.
