Any effective campaign of disinformation and disruption would have "moles" on both sides of the debate, thus assuring that there could be no resolution, only continued rancor and division.

An interesting game. The only way to win is not to play.

From what I've seen, folks are equally prone to fall for this set up regardless of their politics.

I want to understand what you're getting at.

if I were targeting this site, for instance, I wouldn't simply hire stooges to play dissident posters, I'd hire stooges to attack them as well. I'd take care to insure the maximum virulence on both sides of any contentious issue. I wouldn't neglect to sow fear, distrust and paranoia by having them hurl accusations that the "other guys" are clearly agent provocateurs.

Of course, for any of this to work there must be actual underlying divisions to play off of; divisions that would normally be dealt with through democratic debate and accommodation. The whole purpose of disinformation and disruption is to render that process impossible.
