    increasing military spending---which is indeed nothing more than government stimulus spending. The military budget puts money into the economy without returning anything usable--it is, economically, the equivilent of paying people to dig a big hole and then fill it in.  And that is exactly what is needed in keynesian stimulus spending to blunt a demand crunch.

    The bad part, of course, is that the military is the least efficient method of government stimulus--the most efficient being direct money for consumers. But ironically, the fat bloated military budget may be the only type of government stimulus that both parties will allow.
