  •  I've phone banked for candidates for decades (18+ / 0-)

The very first time a candidate every stopped by to thank the phone bankers was 2010 and it was Tom Barrett.  Classy.

There already is class warfare in America. Unfortunately, the rich are winning.

For those of use outside of WI.......Seattle here..........its hard to understand current polling.

      •  Wisconsin is the birthplace of many progressive (4+ / 0-)

movements. One of which, was the Republican party. Many families here are what I call "primordial" Republicans. They were Republican, before Republican was so not cool.

Just as it is hard to understand how perhaps as many as one in six American women have levels of mercury high enough to be of concern to a gestating fetus, so much of this acquired adult retardation seems to be environmental.

        •  I've come to believe that being a Republican (2+ / 0-)

is, for many, an inherited condition. It's as if it's a family's chosen religion or some sort of a birthright or an inherited genetic trait.

Republicans will say that "We're Republicans" or "Our family has always been Republican" and they sometimes go into details about family traditions and other unsolicited excuses. Some of them seem have a need to justify why they're Republicans as if they don't personally agree but God (or Mom and Dad) wants them to be a Republican. It's really weird.

Democrats usually say "I'm a Democrat" and that's that.

My thinking about this is probably in line with your "primordial" concept.

And it's gotta be more than just mercury poisoning. There's gotta be some lead and chromium in there somewhere. That and all those first cousin marriages in the family briar patch.

Really. I was born a f&^%g Republican. Stupidity.

Oh yeah. I was born in Wisconsin. Every single one of my ancestors of over two generations back were Republicans. Period. Many voted for Lincoln. I can deal with that. Even Ike was acceptable. Not since then, though. A good number of their descendents of my generation and later are solid Democrats now. So there's hope.
