I can't imagine why someone would say no ones ever been able to make it work when serious polywell research has only occured in the last 5-7 years.
Maybe it's because nobody's been able to make  it work you think?

I have no argument with your explanation that not enough time and money have been applied.  I haven't indicated that nuclear fusion will never deliver vast power at low cost.  Not being a  cyclop I am not cursed with being  able to  see the future certain.

Now what I can't understand is why folks let low-hanging fruit rot on the vine and on the ground while dreaming of picking the fruit high in the treetops.

If we wished, we could develop massive amounts of  baseload clean cheap power rapidly like some of the poorest nations on earth are doing but we would rather dream of something in a distant future - or never.

Perhaps you could help me understand as I have tried to help you.

I spent nearly all my professional life in R&D.  You don't want to know about all the things that were almost there - but never got there yet.

And there were some very long shots that paid off handsomely (a terrible understatement of developments like, say, the optical disk) and some that have been almost there for over a century.

    Best,  Terry

      Polywell?

What is the definition of work? Net power @ 1000Mw?

Or do you mean Proton Boron11 fusion working, its been done, once.
