    on Clinton's culpability.

Seems to me that there are a host of different factors in 'killing news', not least of which is the nostalgic lens with which we to the past news.

    •  Consolidation of media ownership (9+ / 0-)

began under Reagan and was completed under Clinton. By 2004, only five corporations owned most of the media: Time Warner, Disney, Murdoch's News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, and Viacom.

They also control our culture and our government: no informed electorate = no democracy.

As another commenter says, it began under Reagan. But Clinton drove the last stake in.
I worked for Time Inc. Started in 1982. All was still fine back then. But in the late 80's they merged with Warner. things began a bad turn then, and by 1992 I was gone.
But that was just the beginning. As I tried to find work, more and more entities merged or closed.
It wasn't his fault entirely, but he not only did nothing to stop it, he finished the job.
As for a "nostalgic lens:, uh, sorry, but we have lost what news reporting once was, what journalism once was. You can't look at a single news show on any major network today and call it "news". It's a conglomeration of what the suits want you to see, not what you need to know.
Nostalgia? Fuck that. I miss the TRUTH.
