  •  this election basically says (8+ / 0-)

"people don't like recall elections". and Republicans are going to get way, way more money from Super Pacs than Dems are. especially if the Dem running just lost to the guy he's running against not even 2 years ago!

obviously, the exit polling showing that plenty of Walker voters still plan on voting for Obama nullifies any kind of analysis that says this election was 'anti-Obama' in sentiment, though. even as Walker's popularity fell precipitously, he still consistently led in polls against actual suspected opponents since the threat of recall began. people found the idea of just removing an elected official more odious than they found Walker's actual behavior.

that is probably partly because people don't know more than that he's against unions. the guy's a thug and likely a criminal, but the Dems didn't have the $$ to make a dent with such a message.

if you're saying the Dems need to "wake up" about how badly they're about to lose the money race (and that political races will follow) then I agree. they need to start campaigning as thought they're 10 points down, like, yesterday. because if the money race plays out like this election did, nothing will beat that $$ advantage. Dems need to take this to the people on the left who have means and say "if you folks don't pony up, this is what will happen.". trouble is, many of those folks don't have much problem with Mitt Romney. yet.

      •  yeah (0+ / 0-)

I'm starting to think the last sentence of that para is as or more important though. I mean, jeez, attempting a recall is one thing, but running the same exact guy as who ran and lost the last time is basically like asking people to admit they are wrong and be admonished. it's just an obvious tactical and strategic error of huge proportions.

combine the two points, 1) recall elections not viewed favorably and 2) an almost shame-based admit you were wrong! reality of the recall election. not too surprising that enough $$ could beat it.
