Gary Miller leads even though he represents 0% of the territory!

Hoping Aguilar can pull it off, otherwise a Kim and the other Dems really cost us a good seat this fall ....

    •  Kim was in first. (5+ / 0-)

Aguilar jumped in after Kim announced. If Aguilar loses, it is because he ran an ineffective campaign and took a primary win for granted. I mean, he didn't even submit a bio for the voter information guide which many voters rely on and created a website barely a month before the election.

Aguilar didn't bring his A-game when he ran for this seat,
I think the reason why folks coalesced behind him was he had the higher name recognition/base

still hoping we don't give the R's a freebie

        •  3,113 is a base? (0+ / 0-)

Pete Aguilar only got 3,113 votes in the only election he has faced the public in.. that's not my idea of a prohibitive name recognition advantage.

Fact is, if anything screwed it for our side, it's Aguilar — with only an undergraduate degree — getting in against an already announced, progressive Yale Law grad.

          •  Well its enough a base (3+ / 0-)

that's he broke 10,000 votes so far.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree but Aguilar at least holds some form of elected office.( I'm sure that was a factor why DCCC seemed to backing him)

And honestly if Aguilar didn't run the Dems would have still split the vote with Russ Warner (who dropped out after Aguilar entered)

I really think we don't have much of bench here yet when it comes to elected officials.

Agreed. I grew up in CA-31, now in West LA, and I'm disappointed in the Democratic bench (or lack thereof) that's present.

Actually, Aguilar pulled in Steny Hoyer, which probably put him on the DCCC's radar.

However, I really hope Aguilar, Warner, and Kim sort things out between them and run again, one per race.

But it's good to see how the top 2 primary hurts us in certain places. Moving forward, CDP needs to make sure they get behind one candidate per race and do it early. If the California Democratic Party and labor had thrown everything behind Kim or Aguilar (though admittedly, I'm a Kim voter) one of them would certainly have made the runoff and possibly the general.

that has nothing to do with the quality of a candidate.
