    Confused suggests that they have the right information but can't sort through it for themselves.  Ignorance just means that they lack all the information, although it's equally true that they can get all the 'right' information and still draw the 'wrong' conclusions, so it's a tough nut to crack.

    I will say this, though: I agree 100% with your diary, with one addition... Because of the level of partisanship, it's really hard to flip people on the basis of party.  It's much easier to flip people on the basis of ideas.  If you're opening conversations with people, it's almost better not to use the words 'Republican' or 'Democrat' until after you've made headway on issues like jobs, social issues, or whatever the most pressing things are for the people you're talking to.  The second you make it about this-or-that party, it becomes an impenetrable wall.

    I don't know if I've ever flipped more a person on party basis, but I've at least got a bunch of people voting progressively on social issues.  Now it's just the slow work of getting them to realize that those issues do align with a party who'd be better in positions of power.
