  •  Four competitive districts: (6+ / 0-)

SD12 (D): Far northeast, open due to Holperin's resignation

SD18 (D): Oshkosh-Fon du Lac, Jessica King is the first D senator here for awhile.

SD30 (D): Green Bay and points north. Hansen could be vulnerable. We'll see if surviving a recall helps him.

SD14 (R): Central Wisconsin. This district was close enough last summer that it might be winnable. Not an easy pickup, though.

    Less competitive districts:

    Safe D (will never vote Republican): 4, 6, 16, 22, 26

Very Likely D (almost certain holds): 24, 32

    Very Likely R: 2, 10

    Safe R: 8, 20, 28

You'll notice that we hold 10 out of the 16 seats up for reelection in November. Also note that 22 and 8 were competitive on the old map, but both are now very lopsided.

    •  Thanks. I appreciate it. n/t (0+ / 0-)

The main seats to watch are SD-12 and SD-18.

With the Lehman win, the Senate will be 17D-16R.

We need to hold both of those seats.  This will not be an easy task.

SD-12 will be tough.  Had Holperin decided to run for re-election, he would have a good chance to win.  There are two people running in the Democratic primary.  I don't yet know enough about them to comment.  Rep. Tom Tiffany (AD-35) is running on the Republican side.

SD-18 will also be tough.  That district is historically Republican.  King is a strong candidate.  However, Hopper would have easily been re-elected in the recall of 2011 had he had more family values.

I don't see any of the other 14 seats up in November flipping parties.

Democrats in WI need to focus their attention to these two races, as it is our only chance of providing checks-and-balances to Walker and the Republicans.  We may gain a little in the Assembly, but it won't be enough (analysis of the Assembly will be in the works soon).
