  •  Sigh (0+ / 0-)

the question was about a fifty state strategy not a internal state strategy. Next, without in crowd backing? I would say Obama putting the entire WI OFA operation, staff and volunteers to work on the recall elections is having the backing you want and need.

So having OFA offices and multiple offices in mosts states  and volunteers working up and down the ticket is a fifty state strategy.

It isn't about states per se. That's just the name.

There are two ideas behind the ("so-called" if you like) fifty state strategy.

First, contest everything and make them work for it, don't give anything away for free. Make them spend the money and put in the time.

Second, always have a credible candidate in place for those times when the R candidate blows up, which does happen. Wide stance, indictments, all sorts of things.

So this seems to be a fine example. By contesting that seat, Compas forced the R resources to be spread thinner than they would have been otherwise, thus satisfying the strategy. And (arguably) we wouldn't have won Van Wanggaard's seat if that hadn't happened.
