was obvious and would easily produce fruit.

at least at first, that is until they became so brazen about it America noticed.

why did the Democrats and the President even bother to try and deal in good faith with the Republicans?

As a nation, the U.S. consumes the most hot dogs per capita. So you'd be wise to never underestimate our powers of denial.

      •  well if they went with your idea (0+ / 0-)

        nothing would have gotten done.

legislation isn't like buying a car.  all of this was strategic as was the republicans plan.

because if you know that the Republicans are never going to negotiate in good faith the Democrats and the President could have taken a different approach to getting legislation turned into law. If the Republicans are going to call the President and his ideas socialist and the media is not going to correct them and half the voting population that listens to Limbaugh and watches Fox News thinks the Democrats and the President are socialists then why not actually give them something to worry about. Actually propose some really liberal ideas. Make the case to the American people, because you're going to get the same reaction anyway you might as well move the liberal agenda forward. In the end the Democrats were going to have to compromise to keep things running , but they could have knocked over a few bodies getting to that point. Instead the Democrats look weak and feckless negotiating with themselves.

          •  that's what i thought (0+ / 0-)

            and was correct.

you'd get 0 with your idea.

those congress peeps don't care what half of america wants.  they care what their district or their supporters want.

your way would have netted nothing and you would have lost all your political capital.  you would have been a one term president.

just saying you would look worse. as right as you are, reality would relegate you to loser.

If they knew about this and still gave the Republicans the ability to stop everything then they must have been OK with what the Republicans were doing.  And everything else was theater for us.

I hope that is not the case.

Which is good news for John McCain.

      •  Do you think "America" would have (6+ / 0-)

        noticed if he hadn't?

I don't.  I think it has taken being hit on the head with a 2x4 for Americans to see the fact that the republicans have done absolutely nothing to help them.

Fox "News" viewers don't know this, of course.  But their numbers are dwindling, and the republicans have become so damn brazen about it that even Fox viewers know something is up....I have neighbors that watch it and even they (some diehard conservative assholes) know who is at fault.

and she loves to back a winner.

a politician that can't get anything passed is a loser which was the republicans plan.  notice those few republicans who sided with us are no longer republicans.

this isn't brain surgery folks, should be easy to see.  when you lead with your liberal fantasy legislation and you fail guess where you end up?

...for about a  week, but not for an entire year. That was the mistake. Part of that was a holdover from Clinton's efforts to get healthcare passed.s and,  The criticism was it was rammed down everyone's throats.

This time all "stakeholders" were involved. Unfortunately, some of those stakeholders were actually holding stakes and they jammed those stakes through the heart of health care reform, leaving only the Supreme Court to pull the plug.
