  •  to my mind, anti-vaxism is a deal-killer. (9+ / 0-)

Anyone who promotes anti-vax quackery is on my instant shit-list regardless of whatever else they might be doing.

It's worse than climate denialism because individual actions can have a strong and immediate multiplier effect on outbreaks and epidemics: in other words each person who acts on the basis of this nonsense becomes a walking disease vector who can become an asymptomatic carrier and pass life-threatening infections to others.

And when someone like RFK Jr. or Bill Maher (he's another one) who has street cred with progressives, indulges in that shit, the result is to spread the meme in the progressive community and cause more of us to a) spread disease, b) get sick & die, c) encourage others to do likewise.

Totally unforgivable unless the person makes a complete retraction and public apology.

"Minus two votes for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.

great moment in the vaccine wars for me was an episode of ER in which a young boy died because his upper-middle-class mom was anti-vaccine -- wanted to use only "natural" treatments. It was a very pointed to message to the anti-vax people.
I think of vaccines as being extremely natural since what they do is train your immune system to target the disease. And when you think about the history of vaccines -- that the word vaccine comes from vacca for cow; Jenner noticed that dairy maids were free of smallpox because they had immunity from having had cowpox (a mild illness). Cowpox was, in essence, the natural immunization against smallpox (hence the expression, the complexion of a dairymaid, because in a community where so many people were pock-marked from smallpox, the dairymaids escaped smallpox and therefore had smooth skin).
