    Really, truly--tell your friends.

The old tetanus booster, Td, hurts like a motha' going in, and aches afterwards.  The new tetanus booster, TdaP, goes in like water--with the new thinner needles, you can hardly feel it if you can manage to relax your arm.  It still aches somewhat afterwards, but it's so much easier to take.

I believe this is because the Td vaccine contained an adjuvant which was able to be left out of the TdaP, because pertussis is such an immune activator on its own.

Universal Health Care - it's coming, but not soon enough!

    •  Well, I don't know about that (0+ / 0-)

Coincidentally, I had a slight accident on Wednesday and ended up in the doctor's office getting some stitches in my foot. Since I hadn't had a tetanus booster in a long time they gave me the TDaP booster as a precaution. It still causes generalized arm soreness which can be worked out with a little effort. It's no better or worse than it used to be before they added the Whooping Cough part.

It still hurts much less than a cholera shot and is much more effective.

I was going to forego commenting in this diary because I have a general disregard for people who refuse to vaccinate. I get that you have your beliefs but ... History suggests that vaccinations are a net positive. Think small pox and polio, not to mention the plethora of childhood diseases that most children avoid. You can take your chances that other people will vaccinate enough that your children won't be exposed to anything but the economist in me says that eventually you will run up against the Theory of Public Goods and it will not be a fun thing for your child and you could have prevented it.
