  •  Don't buy the GOPer spin on Romney's governorship (6+ / 0-)

Massachusetts resident here and I'm still mad I voted for Shannon O'Brien in the primary instead of Robert Reich. The last two years of his term, Romney spent most of his time out of state bashing the state because for Pete's sake, he was running for President.

Romney didn't cut taxes either. He raised the fees. He mismanaged the Big Dig, continuing the incompetence of three prior Republican governors. He ran a patronage system out of his Beacon Hill corner office (BTW the landscaping company that used the undocumented workers to cut the lawn at Romney's Belmont mansion also got a contract to landscape MassPort property as well)

Democrats spin Mass. was 46th in job creation. Republicans say it was between 25 and 30th. I wouldn't brag about either. It makes the Obama recovery look like it is on steroids.

The reality is that the Commonwealth isn't some middling mediocre state. Without Massachusetts we might be speaking the Queen's English, drinking tea and watching the National Cricket League and footy on the telly. Massachusetts is a leader in education, medicine, and science. Massachusetts is 13th in population but the state should be in the top ten or just outside in every metric for the economy. Anything less than top ten just reeks of mediocrity. And Romney is bragging about being 30th.

      ..and that's not spin.
I witnessed it firsthand myself, as I'm sure you did.
There's a pretty good fact sheet with links right here.

The Dig was just a givaway to Bechtel and Parsons.

Romney's fee increases added up to more than previous tax intake, and seemed bigger since less people had jobs.
Yet the debt exploded. There are lots of parallels between MA during that period and what the Bush administration was doing nationally.

Everybody got to elevate from the norm....
