    Orthodoxy? They translated a bible for just about every new culture they came into contact with.

    Or was that post, Great Schism?

      The official bible was always the Latin Vulgate until the Reformation took hold so deeply that the Church was forced to eventually compete and allowed vernacular translation.  Still, the Church did not officially endorse a vernacular bible until Vatican II.
