    and I think there is a fundamental failure to grasp how attitudes in the US concerning history, privilege, opportunity and fairness differ from those elsewhere.  Every culture idealizes certain values, and ignores discrepancies with actual conditions.  I see no likelihood that the author's ideas will have any traction in the foreseeable future.  Was there any discussion about compensating Hispanics or the descendants of Chinese laborers?

    Where are we, now that we need us most?
