  •  Emily's List is providing the means to which (4+ / 0-)

these candidates can have access to money they need. I'm all for changing the system by which candidates raise money, but bashing Emily's List hardly seems reasonable. They raise all their money directly from people like you and me. They bundle the money and send it to each individual candidate. They provide an important function. Without Emily's List there would be significantly less women in the Senate and House.

we wouldn't have Barbara Mikulski and the year of the women. Without those important milestone elections where would women be today? Not at 17%. Which is a terrible number still, but it would be much worse. Don't make generalizations about "middlemen".

terrible about how they raise money. They have a list of candidates. An individual can chose to donate to whom ever they like. Emily's List provides a list and that's it. Is that someone from Ohio is donating to a candidate in Oregon? People do that all the time. Is it that they get to decide who's on that list? Well I think they've earned that right and so do their 1.5 million new members.

          she is spectacularly popular.

The only election she has ever lost was when she ran for the US Senate in 1974. Charles Mathias ran to her left.

          •  Mikulski gave credit to Emily's List. (0+ / 0-)

They provided her with the money to do a poll that showed her ahead in the Democratic primary. Before that she was having trouble raising money. The Democratic establishment wasn't opening up it's big donors to her. She was doing bake sales to raise money! After that poll the door was opened to raise larger amounts.

Also, Emily's List raised $500,000 for her campaign.

have been cut off from access to the funding that the "old boy network" provides.  EMILY'S List was established to even out the terrain by inviting women from all over the country to give a boost to emerging female candidates who are pro-choice.

Over the years I've had my disappointments with some of their picks and am much more careful where I send my checks.

However, I intend to continue my support because they are the best game in town for getting pro-choice women elected to office.

They've made some bad choices, but every organization has and will. They've owned up to their egregious one, but I feel like people are still holding a grudge over that (Niki Tinker).

So should you. She ran a vilely anti-Semitic campaign, with some Hitlerian flyers, and Emily's List stuck with her for way longer than it should have. That broke the bond forever. There are plenty of better pro-Democratic outfits to support.

Emily's List immediately pulled their endorsement and condemmed her.

            Here's the statement:

"We were shocked to see the recent ads run by the Nikki Tinker for Congress campaign. We believe the ads are offensive and divisive," said Malcolm. "Emily's List does not condone or support these types of attacks."
Sure they deserved to be rebuked for endorsing her, but that was 4 years ago. It's time to move on, but obviously that's not going to happen, because it isn't just about that. It seems to be means to an end.

except that Emily's List made a decision in my state, to endorse one pro-choice woman over another, solely based on the regressive tax system that Hassan has pledged to protect.

That means that infrastructure and education will continue to suffer in my state, because of our over-reliance on the property tax.

In fact, when you come right down to it, the property tax disproportionately hurts women. Women live longer, but earn less - so if their husbands die first, they often can't keep their homes.

Please - tell me, exactly, how I'm being unreasonable for being mightily pissed off about this.
