...is probably caused by a brain tumor.  But maybe Bryson is lucky and it's just a stroke.

Epilepsy, the tendency to have seizures without any sort of mass lesion causing them, never starts as late as age 68.  Bryson has some sort of mass lesion.

Gohmert isn't just an idiot.  He's an inhuman idiot.

We should have destroyed the presidency before Obama took office. Too late now.

or other causes as well. Tumors aren't the only thing that can go wrong. But that being said he should have a thorough medical work up to determine the cause.
And it goes without saying that DOCTOR Gohmert should not be doing the work up.
The next time he brings this up someone should ask him,
"Doctor, where did you do your neurology fellowship, that you can diagnose without examining the patient?"

        med short for medical...

For a better America, vote the GOP out of office whenever and wherever possible and as soon (and as often) as possible!

      •  "Mass lesion" wasn't the precise terminology (0+ / 0-)

I should have said structural or anatomic lesion to include all the possible etiologies that make the contrast with the epileptic seizures that most people are familiar with, which have no lesion associated that can be seen on either imaging or at autopsy.

My point is that none of the accounts I have seen of this episode make at all clear to the lay reader that Bryson almost certainly has a serious underlying condition for which the seizure was merely a relatively trivial symptom, unimportant in itself compared to its importance as a symptom of that serious underlying condition.  When most readers don't understand what it means for a 68yo to have a first seizure, because they have their familiarity with seizure almost entirely from epilepsy, I think it's a pretty serious disservice to the reader to not bring the difference out front.  People who think only of epileptic seizures when seizure is mentioned might think Gohmert had a point, that a 68 yo epileptic either ought to have his seizures under very good control by now, or not be driving if they aren't.

      •  As a life long epileptic I can attest to the fact (0+ / 0-)

that we do not understand very much about epiliepsy. A seizure can be caused by a fever. diabetes, stress. These seizures are not epilepsy though, epilepsy is the term to identify seizures with a lack of obvious explanation. This seizure could be the result of head trauma that happened decades ago.

Gohmert is a man totally lacking in honor or decency.

In a just world he would be shunned like Cain.
