  •  So totally hear you (4+ / 0-)

I often wonder now if my girls, one with a Fashion Design major and the other starting out in pre-vet studies would be better off in another Country.  I know the Fashionista would love France but again, what is there for her?  More of the same.

Unfortunately I am convinced the only way to turn things around is to let the ship sink with the Republicans.  Then people MAY wake up and find they have been dupped all these years.

      Ask yourself:

What is the unemployment rate of fashion design majors post college?

Of fashion design majors who are employed, what jobs do they hold and what are their salaries 1, 5, 10 years out?

Your daughter had better know the answers to these questions. Unfortunately, if things don't go well, no one will help her. It's tough out there these days: help her make good decisions here.

    •  France is a beautiful country (8+ / 0-)

with a strong and wise citizenry, a great social safety net and probably one of the top health care systems in the world.  I am far too old and not in great health, but were I younger and with a little more income, I would do everything possible to make France my home.  Or Costa Rica.  The US had devolved into a zoo and a shameful and scary place.  Unfortunately I live in Florida.  Moved here in 1978.  Things were better then.  Now, the right wing fanatics, the gun nuts and the Tea Baggers have taken over this state and it is a fucking shame to see this happen in a place I used to love.  Topping it all off, the nutcase party is going to take over my city, Tampa, in August and that will be disgusting to see.  Imagine Palin and her entourage in Tampa with nutcase Teabagger gun morons surrounding their queen in jubliation and celebration!

is there still a handgun ban for the convention?

quite an ethical quandry, isn't it, for the 2nd amendment fettish party to ban handguns at it's nominating fest?

says NO - no handgun ban.  The Mayor of Tampa  is fighting for a handgun ban.  One never knows which nut lands on top when the jar is emptied.

I think the Secret Service will enact a perimeter of some kind around an area (the convention center and some distance out).  These things are unpredictable and illogical and just plain nuts if you ask me.

          •  i'm sure if there are any handgun-related (1+ / 0-)

incidents karl rove's propaganda machine is all geared-up to blame it on either the d's or the occupy crowd.

hell, he's probably already planned a few just so he can manufacture a controversy (his favorite trick) & ride the bounce the r's will get from it all the way to election day.  sorry if that sounds cynical, but i put NOTHING past the talking ham -- nothing.

          •  tommy - no guns in the convention hall (1+ / 0-)

The Secret Service is coordinating security inside the hall and no guns are allowed.

The issue is the area surrounding the convention. The mayor wants a gun ban and the gov says no.

            "let's talk about that"

          •  There will be a "Clean zone" (1+ / 0-)
            Recommended by:

for some distance from the convention, although the size of the clean zone has been shrunk due to neighborhood complaints. Most of the city's parks have been reserved for Republican use, so there will be no place for the homeless or protesters to congregate.
And, insanely, there will be no gun ban.
Tampa's famous strip clubs are remodelling and beefing up the talent in order to accomodate the expected influx of Republican money.
