I was born in 1954 and watch my D-era parents move up from difficult conditions. I've had a good life and have been able to do more things...travel, receiving higher ed, playing music for a living, enjoying arts of all sorts, eating wonderful food, etc. than I ever imagined being possible as a kid. Thought that this was typical for America/Americans until the past few years. Don't think so any more and am open to being a expatriot though I have no specific plans at this time.

I have a 9.5 year old and am worried about his future here. How will he "have a better life"? That's not at all clear.
