  •  There are other elements of globalization (8+ / 0-)

that can't be calculated and entered into spread sheets: they include the element of exploitation, which stems from foreign entities being able to force poverty stricken laborers to work for pennies on the dollar and sexual crimes committed against vulnerable laborers who can be forced to choose between dignity and a job.

I can't believe the newest revelations about the secret negotiations that are ongoing between the members of the TTP haven't caused a major firestorm on this site. What is happening is so corrupt that any Democrat should be up in arms, but so far....crickets. As usual, if Obama is doing it, then it doesn't matter how horrific the results of the policy.

If these policies are enacted, then we could see exploitation of laborers like we've never seen within the U.S. and there won't be a damned thing we can do about it.

    Thanks for posting this diary.

Yglesias has pointed out the intellectual property bullying that the U.S. is doing in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, but that's what happens since so much of Big Pharma is based in the U.S.

You are absolutely right, though, reporting on this agreement is essentially non-existent.

      •  I don't think many people realize this (6+ / 0-)

agreement will allow foreign companies based in America to sidestep U.S. jurisdiction if they can persuade a foreign tribunal to over rule U.S. law.

For example, if they are violating our environmental laws (which are almost non-existent), and we decide to prosecute them, then they can appeal that decision to the tribunal and if the tribunal over rules our law, then there is nothing we can do. We are powerless to enforce our own laws within the U.S. against foreign corporations.

That will officially make us an oligarchy.

And yet, there is total silence from the Obama supporters.

    •  TTP? hard to know revelations that aren't related (0+ / 0-)

by means of a link or explanation. Just saying. Google's no help either.
