pretty much as Obama looks out for our interests.

The banks and global finance come first.

Shit. Germany still seems to believe that advancing its own interests requires subjugating the rest of Europe. How ironic that it may achieve by peaceful, lawful means, with the consent of the conquered, what it twice failed to achieve by force.

And once again, I predict, Germany will regret the results.

I highly recommend Tony Judt's Postwar--hugely informative, lucid, optimistic book showing how the European chaos following WWII was even worse than most Americans realize, and showing how peaceful cooperation eventually won out. Beyond tragic that Europe is now seriously considering heading in the opposite direction, back towards its old ways.

Let us pray the Europeans who forget history will not doom the world to repeat it.
