There were many many rules I disliked. I had to turn away applicants on temporary layoffs, on strike, with decent cars, with modest nest egg savings accounts. Unfortunately, these were the easy cases. I didn't understand why we sat in a huge impersonal building instead of going out to town halls & senior centers on a regular basis. We had to deal with ten languages & lacked translators.  My caseload prevented me from adequately investigating suspect clients I knew were trying to confuse me with huge amounts of contradictory paperwork & whose household benefits, if approved as presented, would run as high as $1000+ per month while I awarded $50 to old ladies on fixed incomes.

because there are people living it just like me every damn day in America.  Hell, there are people in my town living it just like I do.

If some people need $1000+ a month to keep their kids fed and the bills paid - then they need that much.  I'm one guy - I don't need that much.  But I sure as hell need more than I get - and I was told specifically when I did my evaluation that my medical would NOT change because I have chronic life threatening illnesses.

When I went back to find out what happened to the medical care that keeps me alive and able to function and work - you make too much and you KNEW IT AND WERE TRYING TO HIDE IT.

I was trying so hard to hide it I unquestioningly brought them every pay stub they asked to see - going so far as to have my boss reprint them to turn in.

      Not untypical.

      Please.

And we sail and we sail and we never see land, just the rum in the bottle and a pipe in my hand...
