    It's an interesting passage. At the beginning of this parable, Jesus is sitting in judgment over the nations. Note also that he is speaking to a people in plural ("Those on his left," and "ones"). It appears to me that this message is directed at a group, not to specific individuals.

    The conservative interpretation of this passage is that Jesus is speaking to YOU, not WE. So if you as an individual help those in need (and worthy and noble endeavor) you will be a sheep not a goat. Jesus, at least in my reading of this story, is speaking to the collective.

    It seems like a subtle distinction, but it's very important. We as a nation will be judged on how we treat the least of these.

    Thus far, epic fail.
