did I say that was the average?

    •  Then why bring it up? (5+ / 0-)

I mean, my neighbor is a public servant who retired at the age of 45 after putting in 25 years. He retired with a full pension. Then he complained that taxes are too high here and so he's moving to Florida.

      He's a single person and it's anecdotal.

Isn't it much more instructive to look at the average age of retirement?

There are two kinds of people in this world. The kind who divide the world into two kinds of people, and the kind who don't.

      •  Not when you are talking about (0+ / 0-)

Greek government employees.  These averages include private and public.

Is that the idea of a social network is taking a beating based on falsehoods.  Northern Europe countries are generally more generous than Greece and are doing well economically. As usual a self serving myth has been implanted but we ahould keep out eye on the facts

in the Financial Times. As I said in my original comment - it is hard to get an accurate picture from affair.

It's been that way for men. It was recently changed for women who were allowed to retire at 60. I think you've been treated to misinformation. The FT is almost always one of the best sources for actual stats in these matters so I'm surprised, because usually people like Munchau and Wolf are the ones commenting on Greece, and they almost always have the right figures.
