    with 17 million people and 20 million bikes. Nobody wears a helmet.

    A helmet doesn't save lives, a good bycicle infrastructure does. Riding bikes that are suitable for city riding helps too.

    In the early 70's, some major protests about the high number of mortalities among bike riders in the Netherlands, resulted in building the bike infrastructure we have now.

    In 1971, 400 children under the age of 14 died due to biking accidents. In 2010 that number was 14.
