    I fail to see what contribution religion brings. It doesn't surprise me in the least that religious persons have made contributions to science. But I don't see what their religion has to do with it, any more than their favorite color or their taste in music. It's just pathetic, in a way, to watch the religious jump up and down and wave, trying to convince the modern world of their relevance, to be greeted with a steadily mounting chorus of yawns.

      Religion, long before science branched off from it, was the source of aspirational insights like the golden rule, monotheism (which has huge implications for science, as will be explained), dignity for all. These are examples of contributions from religion. Most of science's findings, like most of religion's, turn out to be false. But the few that stand the test of time are the pillars of civilization.
