  •  Um, please quote where I said you said that. (0+ / 0-)

I was merely noting that I don't see that as a solution. And I clearly wrote that my solution is to encourage people to not feed the trolls after calling them out for trolling.

Yes, it's rather quotidian, but it can be very, very effective.

    •  what did you mean by this? (0+ / 0-)
I agree that tangents are good and Daily Kos would (0+ / 0-)
      not benefit from banning people
who deviate an iota from the party line,

I belong to the “US” of America, not the “ME,$,ME,$,ME,$,ME,$” of America!

The poster was reacting to a number of prior comments. There's no need to construe that s/he was trying to put words in your mouth -- although I understand why it is a natural reaction.
      •  As I said, I meant that "Daily Kos would not (0+ / 0-)

benefit from banning people who deviate from the party line." I'm not sure why you are perceiving this as me ascribing support to such an idea to you.

      •  Further, if this is an indication of how you (0+ / 0-)

propose to police comments, then I think you're being way to sensitive and misperceiving the meaning of comments.

        It doesn't help your case.

      •  Is this an example of a 'derailed' diary? (1+ / 0-)

I expressed partial agreement with the diarist that derailed diaries are bad but also expressed my opinion that heavy handed responses, for example, banning offenders, would be ineffective.

Nowhere did I say that the diarist promoted banning; however, the diarist misconstrued my comment as saying just that.

I then clarified that that was not my meaning but he or she clearly was still asserting that I did mean that, despite my comment that I didn't. That is willfully misunderstanding my comment.

The diarist seems overly sensitive and to have a hair trigger and engage in uncritical knee jerk reactions to what she or he perceives, however wrongly, as criticism.

That is not a personality trait that I'd think we'd want in someone dictating what is and what is not a legitimate comment.
