Dissent is important. I've had plenty of my diaries derailed by people who strongly disagree with me.

    It happens.

Personally, I don't see how comments on DailyKos have any real relevance to taking back the house and holding the senate.

I think we're taking ourselves too seriously when we think that if everyone here at dailykos says the same thing and follows marching orders that something will somehow change.

Posting a million diaries here at DailyKos won't do a damned thing to change things, but what DOES get things done is posting GOTV stuff, posting action alerts, getting people involved, that sort of thing.

This idea that somehow, the posts we make on dailykos make a difference, and people disagreeing with us hurts our ability to make a difference, is slacktivism.

I posted an article to facebook and Dailykos so I've done my good deed for the day.

DailyKos is the meeting ground for the activist left. This is where we have these kinds of discussions. Shutting down our ability to talk to each other when we disagree by complaining about derailment will only hurt left-wing causes.

a diary. Disagreement is good. Argument is effective as a tool for expressing an idea and for refining an idea. Derailing is veering off topic, or using poor, logical error ridden statements to make a point unskillfully. In the current political climate our opponents have gotten the act of dishonest argumentation lacking in integrity down to a science. Just watch Fox or listen to right wing radio. We should strive here to be better than that.

      •  Absolutely. But there's a huge difference between (0+ / 0-)

trolling and being ineffective at disagreement.

This diary seeks to ban the latter.
