Dill has zero chance to beat King.  Obama could visit Maine weekly to tout Dill and the DSCC could spend mlliions on relatively cheap Maine media - and it would be for naught.  King will still win.  Let's deal with the facts as they are and not with how we wish things were instead. Reid and the Senate Dems will be willing to offer King what he wants - committee assignments and an agreement that he votes with the Ds to organize the Senate (but not an agreement that he must support the Ds on procedural votes thereafter). If lightning should strike - King has a stroke like Ariel Sharon or some unknown scandal (apparently unlikely) fatally tarnishes King) - Dill is in a position to save the day.  Barring such a new intervening factor, even Dill understands she cannot win.  I for one will not be agonizing over the choice.

This is one of those races where party loyalty shouldn't be the slave of advancing the agenda.  There really needs to be an expensive private dinner held in which the chair of the Maine party puts their arm around Dill and says, "look, here's the political reality: better luck next time."
