  •  So... how about (0+ / 0-)

The Kennedy's? Kerry's? Pelosi's, and tons of other well meaning people who never had to worry about a bill?

    •  all of them are out of touch (0+ / 0-)

      Next question?

As a nation, the U.S. consumes the most hot dogs per capita. So you'd be wise to never underestimate our powers of denial.

and others who were born to wealth, but yes, they ARE all out of touch to some degree.  No one who has not actually experienced being hounded by creditors, going through bills to figure out which one has to be paid and which can be postponed, whether there's any possible way to keep a roof over your head for another month, how to come up with gas to get to work with, etc.  doesn't truly understand what it's like, anymore than a white person can ever truly understand what a black person deals with or a straight person can understand what it's like for a gay person.

It's a matter of degree and a matter of how much effort a person puts into trying to understand.

The offense being exhibited exhibited in the last couple of days by some of those who have been fortunate enough to be born into wealth and not have to undergo those experiences themselves sadly remind me of the old white guys on teevee denying that racism still exists and the bigots that claim gays can exist if they just stay in the closet.

The fact that you don't get that you can't actually get what it's like to be truly poor (and I do not include a choice of poverty in a religious entity to be truly poor, since you don't have children to feed, house and clothe, bills to pay, and fear of unemployment staring you in the face) tells me that you are, to some extent, still out of touch.
