    •  Defintely. Syria goes down and Russia's (5+ / 0-)

influence goes way down.  I think that's largely why this is playing out in the media the way it is, the thing with the Russian attack helicopters.  Clinton came out strong, then the State department had to backtrack, but the bottom line is the next step if they want to take it is a No Fly Zone, which means a bombing attack of which the Pentagon said it is ready for.  But Russia has been the main obstacle in the U.N for any outside interference in Syria and they won't get another no fly zone approved in the UN like they did with Libya.  There's been much talk about bypassing the UN so this gives them two birds with one stone.  It paints Russia as helping an evil dictator while providing some justification for not only a no fly zone but a bypassing of the UN because of Russia.
      Conjecture.

"He said something like “the Arabs are helping with funds” and “we still have meetings to coordinate our efforts”; and he added something that confirmed the state of enmity with Russia now prevalent among the Syrians. He said: “We will declare Russia an enemy of the Arab people if it continues its support to Assad.” That means that Russia would likely lose all its assets in the Middle East, after the fall of Assad."

helicopters to Syria? Yes or No.

Is Assad shelling Homs, Hama, Idlib and many other Syrian cities?

People are dying because Assad want to stay in power and they want him out. I don't see any recognition of that in your narrative.

he is so upset about this -- the welfare of the Syrian people seems to be the last thing any of the proxies care about while Syrian civilians are slaughtered.

          •  well, that's often the case unfortunately-- (0+ / 0-)

but his take on it is strongly in the CT realm--as is his take on nearly every aspect of the Arab Spring.  I've seen this 'orchestrated by the US' nonsense before.  Supported by the US?  Sure.  Some low-level economic and sometimes military assistance?  Sure. Orchestrated?  Not in the least.

People who really know what's going on are people like angrymarmot, Lawrence (I think that's his name), frankcornish, etc. etc.  They'll tell you what's going on far more than the Chomsky types around here...

    •  War is a racket joanneleon. That's what this all (4+ / 0-)

is about.  I've been trying to say and that's what I meant this morning about not feeding the beast.
