hammer Romney on this: he wants to raise taxes on the poor while slashing them for the rich. At some point, taxes will need to go up on more than those around the $200-250,000 level, but aside from some preverse ideological conviction that the poor just aren't paying enough or some unsupported idea that credits are distorting incentives, I don't see the logic in raising them on the poor now while slashing them on the rich. Yet, that's just what Romney does. It's not a lie to say this is true; it's not even a half-truth. It's a fact, known by anyone who has examined Romney's proposals honestly.

The only reason I see for Obama to NOT go after Romney on this is that it might make it harder for him to support tax increases in the future. (Then again, Clinton campaigned on a tax cut and raised them, didn't he?) But that's sort of like needing to exercise and not doing so because your knees might give out in three decades: it's not much of a reason at all.

Every campaign surrogate should be mentioning this at every stop, from now until election day. It should be an albatross around his neck, pure and simple.

Jack Donaghy: "We're nipping this in the bud. Jenna's going to issue a formal apology tomorrow on "Hardball" do know what that is, don't you?" Jenna Maroney: "Yes. Should I prepare a song?"
